Annual Show Reel

Performance

Dancestars hosts an annual Show Reel as part of their commitment to performance work.

The mission statement behind our Show Reel is ‘Striving for Excellence whilst Dancing for Fun’.

Pupils who wish to take part in the Show Reel and expand on their performance skills need to be taking one of our ‘performance based classes’ such as Dance Troupe, Elite Ballet or Commercial Dance.

These classes focus on the following objectives;

  • Pupils should develop their technique in genres which vary to their normal timetabled classes. This should include movement vocabulary that the pupils can use in performance based activities and will support their ballet, tap and modern dance.
  • Pupils should expand their knowledge of popular music and dance culture; this can range from West End Theatre to Contemporary dance, African, Indian and other cultural dance forms.
  • Pupils should gain performance skills and develop their understanding of presenting their work; they should look at choreographic devices, motif development, expression, dynamic qualities, musicality, spatial awareness and technique.
  • Pupils should be encouraged to form and build friendships with other students who may be in different classes and or older or younger than themselves. Pupils should gain a sense of a ‘community sense feel’ and a BUDDY SYSTEM is encouraged for older pupils to support and nurture younger pupils.

The Show Reel takes place over a Spring Term weekend at Kingston Grammar School Performing Arts Centre. Pupils are required to be in the theatre both Saturday and Sunday with a rehearsal schedule on the Saturday morning and a Saturday Evening, Sunday Matinee and Sunday Evening performance.

The performance classes that Dancestars offer are there to support our more dedicated and committed pupils. Pupils who require accelerated learning and additional dance education to support the more generalised dance training. The Show Reel supports pupils who show potential to perform outside the Dancestars environment and who are hard-working, dedicated and passionate about their dancing, pupils who wish to do more.
